I Hate People Over 30.

If there’s one thing my mother loves, it’s forwarding me e-mail chain letters. This exclamation-point-riddled tone poem annoyed me to the point where I felt like I had to share it with all of you nice people.

Also, I don’t own a microwave. And I feel like no one I know does, either, except for my parents.

What do you suppose guys cruising for sex in the park think when the Google Street Map cameras drive by? Also, do you think there have been any dirty phone calls placed to the tile company whose van is parked a little farther up this road?

Brit Awards Tomorrow

The Brit Awards aren’t exactly the most prestigious things around, but I used to watch them faithfully, about six months after they happened, when ABC would broadcast them late at night on (I think) the Fourth of July Weekend. The 1996 awards were particularly big for me, since I’ve used clips from the Spice Girls and Manic Street Preachers performances in a couple of videos I’ve made over the years.

Anyway, here’s this year’s nominees, with my thoughts on each one and photos of who I think ought to win (to give me something fun to look at while I decide) (more…)

Thoughts about some new videos

I just posted about this on another blog I write for, but I thought I’d mention the new Moby video. I have to say the first 20 seconds are my favorite–the ending kind of grosses me out as I’m not so into the revenge fantasy thing.

I also can’t say I think much of Missy Elliott’s 3-D video. 3-D is cool and all but it’s probably the least visually interesting video she’s ever done. (Also, whatever happened to Alyson Stoner?)

I think the new Goldfrapp video is dumb, too. Leaf-monsters are fine, but it would be better if they were moving around to a song that didn’t sound like it was written specifically to appear in an episode of One Tree Hill. (more…)

Mixtape Monday

After a two-week hiatus, here’s the new Mixtape For Hookers. I already wrote a description of this once, and then the power went out because it’s all windy out. and the post didn’t save because I hadn’t given it a title yet. Let’s hope that’s not a sign of annoyances to come.

This mix has a few things of note: one is that it’s sort of deliriously happy, which is mostly in response to the fact that a) there’s a frigging monsoon going on outside, and b) I have to work in a little while because my employer doesn’t consider Presidents’ Day a holiday. Also, some of the songs refer to things I haven’t had a chance to write about yet, like seeing Calvin Johnson for the first time on Saturday or buying The Best of Stevie B at the Funk-O-Mart in Philadelphia last weekend, or going to the Sex Workers’ Art Show last night, where some lovely person before the show started played both the Toni Basil and Machine songs on today’s mix. I really didn’t think anybody knew There But For The Grace of God, and anybody I’ve ever played it for has poo-pooed it. But, I’m sorry, I just get a little bit teary-eyed when the family leaves New York to get their daughter away from the blacks or the Jews and the gays, only to have her run back to the city and live on the streets, with the family realizing finally that “too much love is worse than none at all.” Also, that epic song breaks this site’s five-minute rule, so take note if you’re hooking while you’re listening.

As always, if you like the music, go out and buy it. In a real store, preferably, just like Erykah does: (more…)

Don’t forget the Sex Workers’ Art Show is at the RISD Auditorium tonight.  I’ll be there with bells on.  And by “with bells on” I mean “sitting in a really uncomfortable auditorium seat with no leg room, surrounded by art school kids who think they’re sexually liberated but who are probably all going to be too busy text messaging the people around them to pay attention anyway.” Sorry.  I need to be less bitter about everything.  Apparently this is what happens when I give up the booze for Lent.

On my continued lack of posting

Sorry, people.  I’ve just been sort of crazy lately.  Not good crazy, just overwhelmed by how much I hate my day job and how boring my life is and how I never have any fucking money to do anything I want to do.  Like get a new computer, which is sort of key to having a porn blog.  Most of the time I’m using my roommate’s, and he’s currently unemployed which means that any time I’m writing I either feel like a) I’m bugging him, or b) he’s sleeping and I feel uncomfortable, or c) I’m not bugging him and he’s awake and right there and so I get too distracted to write anything anyway.

I’m just in a bad mood, I think.  Plus I’m not sure how I feel about this Silent Pillow thing.   It seemed like a good idea at first, but the quality of the blogs is sort of lacking overall (although there’s a few I really like, like Marcy’s and the Bukkake Files.)  I was just hoping for something a little more engaging.  There’s a bunch of good sex blogs out there, so I was sort of hoping a community of them would develop here.  I know it takes time for things to get going with websites, but I’ve been doing this for about five months now and I don’t know if it’s really building at all, my own blog included.  Sorry.

So, I went to Philadelphia for the weekend and before I left I meant to post a starfucking column and a mixtape, but in the rush of packing and whatever I didn’t get a chance.  Sorry about that!  I’ll try to post one tonight, but I can’t promise anything.  I also want to post about Philly, about the Working Sex book that I finally finished on the plane, about a column in the new issue of Out, and about some other stuff.  But I’m going to be really busy with work and one or two other writing things so, like I said, I can’t promise anything right now.
