This week’s mix has a strong-ish sixties influence, mainly because these are all songs on my roommate’s computer. He’s been downloading music like no one has ever downloaded music before, so it was sort of interesting to poke around and find some songs I didn’t know (the Gainsbourg/Barbara McNair opener, say) to mix in with some old favorites from David Byrne and Francoise Hardy and Mazzy Star. He’s also been listening to a lot of stuff I really like (like Keith Fullerton Whitman and Delia Derbyshire) but which isn’t good for a hooking mixtape, as well as lots and lots of things I personally think are dreadful, like Matmos and fucking Slowdive. Oh well. (I guess here I should also point out that there’s songs on this mix that he wouldn’t approve of, either. The Bloc Party song, for instance, and I doubt he’d like Hamfatter, either.)
Anyway, If you like the music, go buy it somewhere, preferably in a real store that could use your hard-earned money.
