France Gall turns 61 today, and I thought I’d celebrate in the usual way: Youtube videos for everyone!
Gall first single was released in France in 1963, when she was sixteen. Over the next four years she’d have lots of hits, mainly thanks to Serge Gainsbourg, but after the release of Les Sucettes in 1966 her career in France sort of derailed. She continued to be a hit in Germany for a few years after that, though. She was young and pretty, and a lot of the time she chose to yell rather than sing, which I like.
Here she is in Germany in 1968, singing a song about computers to the most unresponsive audience I’ve ever seen:
