Mixtapes for Hookers

I’m Soon To Be Appearing In An Award-Winning Movie, Maybe

Somehow I missed this:  Todd Verow’s Between Something And Nothing won the Jury Award for Best Feature at the Fire Island Film & Video Festival last month.

I worked on the movie after Verow posted an ad on Craigslist sfor an assistant on movie about hustlers in Providence.  I wrote back and said that, as a hustler film enthusiast in Providence, I’d probably be pretty good.  We met, got along fairly well, and then I helped out during production.  We hung out in the attics of the local gay bars, and I held the boom a couple of times and found him an apartment.  I had a cameo as “John #3″ as well, although I’m not sure if that made the final cut.  (I have no idea why it would have.)

The DVD cover shows one of my favorite spaces in Providence (which I used shortly after that for a fashion spread in a local magazine.)  Somehow I don’t remember ever seeing Mr Cute Red Pants with his shirt off, though I’m fairly certain I was standing right there when this was shot.  God, gay movie covers with your incessant shirtlessness!

Anyway, the DVD will be out in early November.  I’ll let you know more when I see it.  Just to warn you, though, this movie isn’t full of Verow blowing guys in park men’s rooms, though I recommend his earlier film Anonymous if you’re into that sort of thing.

Rhode Island, with an 8.8% unemployment rate, is now the most unemployed state in the country, passing Michigan, which I think had the honor for pretty much the last twenty years.

I find out Friday whether I’ll be getting unemployment or not.  Or, at least I talk to them on Friday…  Who knows when I’ll actually find out, although hopefully it’ll be soon since the end of the month is coming up and I have no rent money.

Lady GaGa Is Lovin’ With Her Muffin

The video for Lady GaGa’s Poker Face is out.  I’m sort of unimpressed with it, and not just because the song’s one of the less interesting ones on the album.  (Boys Boys Boys would have been a much better single choice, if you ask me.  Or Love Game.)

While I like the dog and don’t mind the ridiculous blue outfit, something about the undie-clad himbos and giant whitish bangs is trying a little too hard to go for the latter-day Cher crowd, the kind that discovers new music by watching those dreadful continuously-mixed video montages at certain kinds of gay bars.

That said, GaGa’s album is out next Tuesday.  Not that any of you care, I’m sure.
