The video for Trip’s River Phoenix is sort of cute and sort of annoying. Cute because the song, featuring that Art Brut-meets Scroobius Pip-y talk-singing that’s been all the rage in the UK, has a catchy chorus and lyrical syntax that no American would ever use. But it’s also annoying because, with few exceptions, songs that name-check people in the title usually just sound like cheap grasps at publicity.* And it’s also pretty attention-grabby that the video, featuring the cutish anti-hero taking Herman to the circus under a blanket towards the end, is labeled ‘explicit’ and tagged with the word ‘masturbation’ on the band’s Youtube page. (Also, I wish he would do something after that. It’s like they ran out of ideas forty-five seconds before the song was over and decided to just keep repeating them.)
But you can decide for yourself whether the ode to the late Dogfight star is worth the fuss:

The Harry E. Winkler Collection of boxing photographs at Notre Dame contains over 7500 images of boxers both in and out of the ring, mainly from the thirties through the fifties. Their online archive has some pieces of the collection, and it’s a nice enough way to spend the afternoon when you’re looking for excuses not to have to re-examine your resume or clean your filthy, filthy apartment (as I just did.)

When I was eating lunch yesterday some guys at the next table were talking about a murder at the Copley Hotel in Boston, but for some reason I didn’t realize they were talking about something that had just happened. I think the discussion stemmed from talk about a shooting here in Providence at a local gentleman’s club the other week, in which one angry patron managed to shoot three people. The people were joking about it, because the Copley’s pretty fancy and not the kind of place where shootings would ever happen.
I didn’t know the details of the Boston murder until now, though, and they’re pretty gruesome.
The victim was a 26-year old New York woman offering massages through Craigslist, and she was shot multiple times in the chest. Police believe that the murder was possibly related to an armed robbery at the Westin recently, in which a woman was held at gunpoint in her hotel room. Surveillance photos, including the one above, have been released to media, though they’re not really much to go by.
I have a number of sex worker friends to regularly travel to Boston, and I’m worried about them, so hopefully this deranged individual gets caught soon. (Also, hopefully the media will report sensibly on this; I’ve only read about it so far on sex-positive blogs, so I’m not sure what regular news coverage is like.)

Though he was all the rage in the gay blog world about a year ago, I never noticed HGTV electrician Marc “Sparky” Bartolomeo until this morning, when I stumbled across his early modeling photos while I was looking for something else entirely. I’m normally not attracted to anyone on TV, even when I feel like I should be (ie. the guy that drives the Cash Cab.) But still photos are more interesting, anyway.
Bartolomeo is cute, in an ordinary Italian guy-next-door sort of way, but these photographs are almost all really awesome, for himbo model pictures (which normally I can’t stand, really.)
