MTV announced its Video Music Awards nominees this morning, and they are duller than dull. I”m hoping Beyonce sweeps, though, because she’s just about the Single Ladies video really was remarkable in many ways, not the least of which is that a lot of people saw it, and watched it enough times to learn the choreography.
But anyway, there was a lot more than one great video to come out last year. After the jump, here’s some hastily-screengrabbed stills from a dozen of my favorites:

Today:
clem snide
gabe saporta naked
fucking up craigslist
joe rogan muscle
dick comparison
Yesterday:
gabe saporta’s dad
i’m sexually frustrated stripper?
karen orzolek nude fakes
orish grinstead died of aids
lady singers ‘numb”
Here’s how I initially introduced my favorite songs of 2002 list:
It was an exciting year for news, with George Bush creating more
wars than he knows what to do with, the CIA killing people and
announcing they’ll kill more, Britney and Justin breaking up, a
sniper lurking around Washington, everybody and their cousin’s
baby’s father claiming they were molested by their priest, and
black people winning Oscars. But surely no other event gripped
the hearts of America as passionately as the story of Jamie Sale
and David Pelletier, the Canadian figure skaters who finished
second in the pairs competition at the Winter Olympics but then
ended up getting the gold medal anyway. Yeah. So, in honor of
them, this year’s top 40 songs of the year countdown is a pairs
competition.
Yes, it’s true. I made it a pairs competition. So, here’s #40-#11, and then I’ll proceed to reevaluate the top 10, two songs at a time, for probably the next six months or so.
40. Tweet, “Oops (Oh My)” and the Donnas, “Take It Off”
39. 4 Hero, “Les Fleur” and t.a.t.u., “All The Things She Said”
38. Jay-Z featuring Beyonce Knowles, “Bonnie and Clyde ‘03” and Nelly featuring Kelly Rowland, “Dilemma”
37. Ash, “Burn Baby Burn” and Queens of the Stone Age, “No One Knows”
36. Bebel Gilberto, “No Return” and Rufus Wainwright, “Across The Universe”
35. Sean Paul, “Gimme The Light” and Shaggy, “Hey Sexy Lady”
34. Gold Chains, “I Come From San Francisco” and Gonzales, “Take Me To Broadway”
33. Departure Lounge, “What You Have Is Good,” and Saint Etienne, “Action”
32. Eminem, “Lose Yourself” and P Diddy, “I Need A Girl (Pt. 1)”
31. Elvis vs JXL, “A Little Less Conversation” and Damien Marley, “And You Be Loved” (more…)
