While I’m delighted that the call for submissions to the Mixtapes For Hookers’ anniversary party was mentioned in Donna Hughes’ letter, the deadline for submissions was yesterday.  Unfortunately, because I am silly, rather than just removing the call from the front page of the site I accidentally deleted it altogether.  This was an ill-timed accident, I assure you.

The event is still happening, so mark your calendars for the night of Sunday, September 27th, if you’re in or near Providence.  And stay tuned for more details as they get finalized.

[Donna Hughes and her anti-sex minions strike again.  Because when people present little things like "facts" and "common sense" and "lots of studies" it's best to attack them personally.  Having this come out right before the big NOM event tomorrow makes me wish I had left Rhode Island this week. Also, they were wrong about Elizabeth Anne Wood being an editor at $pread.

This is all over the place, though I saw it first on Renegade Evolution.]

Citizens Against Trafficking responds to the letter from 50 academics who support the status quo of decriminalized prostitution (indoors) in Rhode Island.

On July 31, 2009, a letter (link added by me, RE) co-authored by Ronald Weitzer and Elizabeth Anne Wood and signed by 48 other “members of the academic community” was sent to the Rhode Island General Assembly opposing any bill banning prostitution indoors.

Citizens Against Trafficking has learned that their letter is not an isolated action, but part of a larger “Rhode Island Campaign.” Citizens Against Trafficking is working on a multi-part analysis of the authors and signers of the letter, the statements they make in the letter, and their campaign methods.

9. Kylie Minogue, Can’t Get Blue Monday Out Of My Head and New Order, Here To Stay

Originally performed at the 2002 Brit Awards, Kylie’s Can’t Get Blue Monday Outta My Head arrived at the dawn of the mash-up era, a rather tedious time when DJs would lay popular songs on top of one another all willy-nilly to show how clever they were. I wasn’t really into the concept as a whole, and it annoyed the hell out of me when I actually wanted to dance, but it’s hard to argue when a surprisingly revitalized pop diva borrows the classic intro from a group who themselves were surprisingly revitalized that same year.*
