Mixtapes for Hookers

Oh Boy!

Hey, New Yorkers!

We’re only about 48 hours away from Sex Worker Literati, or as I’ve been calling it my Big Apple debut.  I’m reading on Thursday with five other guys, all of whom are talented and exciting and awesome and at least one of whom will be showing you gay porn. (I still say I’m the only one with a good author photo, though.)  I’ll be reading the story about the closest I ever came to doing porn.  (Spoiler: It wasn’t very close.)

Also, if you’re in the city and know of anything exciting that’s happening later Thursday night or Friday, lemme know.  Sadly I’ll probably be heading home before the pool party for bears, but maybe something during the day?  Art shows and gallery recommendations are also very welcome.

Electro^Plankton has saved my life.  Yesterday, right as I was blogging about switching back to paper, he (she?) posted about a minimal new Word Processor called Omm Writer, which is currently in beta for Macs.  It is glorious.

It’s not clunky and awful the way Word for Mac is.  You just drag the corners of the box to resize your page, and then once you’re typing the box goes away altogether, leaving you with a clean white space.  All you see are your own words, just like in olden times.  (You can also set Omm Writer to make noises when you type, and you can even have New Age-y music playing in the background.  But I don’t use headphones when I’m typing and I haven’t been alone enough to experience that in full yet.  I’m guessing I’ll be less into that; New Age-y music makes me nervous.)

My only complaint is that there’s no way to check word counts.  But there are advantages to that, too.  And best of all, you can’t access your dock without minimizing the application.  It’s not convenient for news blogging, but when trying to, say, edit projects you’ve been working on for months it’s a great deterrent from, say, checking Twitter every thirty seconds.  I wrote so much yesterday I can’t evan tell you how happy I am.

Search Terms: Biggest Dick On The Internet Edition

[Somebody in real life recently asked me what my obsession with Search Terms is.  I don't know, actually, except that it's very easy in WordPress to see how people find your site, and  when I started this blog nearly all of my traffic came from misguided people either wanting to know where to find earrings like Alicia Keys's or what Lady GaGa meant when she used the word muffin.  Also, the internet is chock full of people looking for naked pictures of Michael Phelps, Calvin Harris and Olivia Newton John.  And the cast of glee.  But mainly it's just something to do at lunch time on Tuesday, which is generally a very boring time.]

Today:
hookers*
hookers phone numbers for people under 1
vanilla ninja iceland air

dirty porndancing

Yesterday:

I wanted to do a bigger post about World AIDS Day, but time  is not on my side today.  So instead, here’s the video for Motorcycle Baby, the 1988 single by Ecco Homo.  The song is cheesy as all get out, but the video is kind of sexy for a historical document.  (Also, Michael Hutchence!)  Backing vocals are provided by Sherine Abeyratne, who was in popular Australian band Big Pig.

Australian artist Troy Davies, the man behind Ecco Homo, was a visual artist and occasional actor.  He followed Motorcycle Baby up with New York New York, a really awkward venture into late-eighties rap.  I mean, most late-eighties rap by white people is awkward, but this one had the particular disadvantage of featuring Bono.

Davies died of AIDS in 2007.
