At long last, I can finally announce this reading I’m organizing in Providence on June 9th. I am very, very excited to have put this together. These are some of my favorite people (ahem ahem ahem ahem), largely because they are all smart and funny and interesting, and so I expect this event to be a big heap of fun.
The reading is part of Q30, which is this month-long queer art happening that a guy named Michael Kurt organized. He’s taken over a space downtown for the month and there’s readings and talks and music and films and a whole bunch of other stuff. It’s good that it’s happening in June because with the colleges out there’s often a shortage of interesting events going on.
Full performer bios after the jump:

Just a quick little reminder that you’ve only got until Saturday to apply for the night of sexy reading that I’m hosting in Providence on June 9th. If you’re interested, send me an e-mail with your name, a very brief bio, and a sample of something you’re proud of. More details are here.

This Thursday I’ll be spinning some tunes at The Salon on Eddy Street in Providence. Specifically some very European (and Eurovision-esque) tunes. The fun starts at 9pm and it’s free. Come!
After the jump, six songs I may or may not play:

Call For Readers
I, Matthew, am organizing a night of sex-driven readings that will be taking place in Providence on Thursday, June 9th as part of a larger, month-long series of gayish/queerish cultural happenings downtown. My event does not have an official title yet, so for the moment I am calling it Can We Please Just Talk About Sex Now, Please? (This will change. Probably.)
Here’s the dilly:
I’ve read at a number of events in New York that focused on personal stories by current and former sex workers. These events are educational, in that ladies and gentlemen at all points on the sexual and gender spectra get together to talk about their personal lives. But more importantly, I have met a number of great readers and writers, those who have published really great books and those who are still trying to untangle their first short story.

I’m looking for a fella for a photo shoot taking place during the day between now and April 15. Must have daytime (morning/afternoon) availability and be in (or able to get to) the Providence area.
What we’re looking for:
21-49 years old
Muscular/athletic or bearish body preferred
Race not important, but body hair preferred
Must be comfortable with (implied or actual) nudity
This is not porn and you will not be having sex with anybody. If interested, please e-mail me your name, age, height, weight, and two recent photos (one face, one body). You don’t need to send naked photos.

Just a quick little reminder that tomorrow I’ll be nerdily celebrating my gay little corner of the internet at the Scurvy Dog on Westminster Street in Providence. The beer is good and the music is good and it’s the day before I start my annual Lenten sobriety kick, so I will be in rare form, and by that I mean bloated on BBC Coffeehouse Porter, most likely. But it’s a Tuesday and probably you don’t have anything else to do and some intelligent and good-looking people are going to show up, so there’s that.

So, for over a year now I’ve been trying to get my behind in gear to do some kind of party for Naked Pictures Of Your Dad… I get a couple dozen hits a day from folks in Providence and a bunch more from nearby Massachusetts, and I like meeting people, and figured why the hell not. I had grand plans at first, for something with a DJ and go-go daddies and a lube sponsorship, say. But that kept not happening, and I’m very often busy planning other events, so I’ve decided to scale back and just invite you guys to hang out over some beers.
So, on Tuesday March 8th (a week from tomorrow) I’m inviting you all down to the Scurvy Dog (1718 Westminster Street), where the music is good and the beer is good and nothing is actually terrible. (I thought about having this at a gay bar, but then couldn’t think of a single one that met any of those three criteria, let alone all of them…)
It’s super informal–I won’t be DJ-ing or anything, and unfortunately there won’t be any middle-aged people dancing on the bar–but I bet it’ll be fun. And my friends are a good-looking people, I think, so there’s that.
I’ll be showing up around 9, I think, for those of you who have to get up in the morning. And probably I’ll be sticking around for the long haul, for those of you that don’t have to get up in the morning.
And, uh. Yeah!

Yesterday was one of the more exciting days of my life. The first issue of Headmaster officially went to print! A man named Paul took it to northern Massachusetts, where it’s now being turned into a proof, which we’ll get back tomorrow, and then once we okay that proof the press will start and by mid-December we’re going to have our magazine!
It’s 88 pages long and features projects by ten different writers, photographers, illustrators, designers and painters, and I am soooooooooo excited to have been a part of it.
If you’re in/around Providence, we’ll be launching the magazine on December 16th at Heir, the antiques purveyor on Westminster Street in downtown Providence. And if you’re not, then feel free to order your copy now.
Also, on a blogging note, now that we’ve gone to print you can expect to hear a little bit more from me in the future…
